In the first half of the 20th century, a number of women artists who were frustrated by a lack of recognition on the East Coast packed up and left everything behind. In New Mexico’s isolated art colonies, they found the freedom and social acceptance to excel. Matthews Gallery presents the stories and artwork of Janet Lippincott, Agnes Sims, Doris Cross and other women who found a powerful voice in the Land of Enchantment.
NEW LANDSCAPES, NEW VISTAS opens with a special reception on Friday, May 8 from 5-7 pm. Learn more about this exhibition on the Matthews Gallery blog.
