Edward Hagedorn Description

Edward Hagedorn (1902-1982) was born in Oakland California. His mother died during childbirth; he was raised by his maternal grandmother and by his aunt. Hagedorn enrolled in the San Francisco Art Association at age 16. Later, he attended the California School of Fine Arts.

During the 1920’s, he made art in a studio on the old Montgomery Block of San Francisco and was hired by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930’s. An enduring local of the San Francisco Bay area, the latter part of his life was finished in Berkeley where he upheld a studio-residence at 2436 Woolsey Street until his death on Dec. 14 1982. Painter and etcher, he also produced many pencil and charcoal drawings of nudes.
