Hannah Holliday Stewart (1924 - 2010) exhibited in over 40 venues including The Smithsonian, Washington, DC; the San Francisco Museum of Art; the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia; the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts and others. Her artwork and her career were instrumental to the increased recognition of women sculptors in the United States.
Stewart produced many "Cosmic Dancers" and travelers throughout her career. These beings and their movements became symbols of Stewart's own creative process. In undated lecture notes from Stewart's time at St. Thomas University in Houston, she wrote, "Cosmic dance—that musical and geometrical pattern of movement in creation... Myth is no longer description, it is a performance of Reality."
