Hannah Holliday Stewart

Untitled 2

Carved, Polished Granite
13.25 x 10 x 1 in

Hannah Holliday Stewart (1924 - 2010) exhibited in over 40 venues including The Smithsonian, Washington, DC; the San Francisco Museum of Art; the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia; the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts and others. Her artwork and her career were instrumental to the increased recognition of women sculptors in the United States.

“Light is an extremely important design element for me—especially on the deeper concrete and granite reliefs,” wrote Stewart in an undated artist statement. “In placing work, I am careful about the directional placement so that as the sun changes throughout the year, the character of the sculpture also changes– expressing different nuances in the summer and fall.”
