Frederick W. Becker (1888-1974) was an itinerant artist who traveled widely in the West. Before coming to Texas he painted in Taos and in Southern California. In 1931-1932 he was head of the Fine Arts Department at the Oklahoma City University. In the late 1930s and 1940s, Becker worked in the San Antonio and Big Bend areas of Texas. During that time he was president of the Society of Texas Artists and a member of the Southern States Art League. He is widely known for his western landscapes.
